FODM121FV Working Principle

The FODM121FV is an optoelectronic component composed of an infrared light-emitting diode (LED) and a silicon-bipolar photovoltaic transistor output, as well as an additional protection diode. Input data on a transmission line is converted to light in the LED, and then read by a photovoltaic output transistor which is optically isolated from the transmission line. This isolated output is then used to drive the transmission line, signaling a digital one or a digital zero.

The FODM121FV has a maximum LED forward current of 1.6mA and an LED saturation voltage of 1.24V under a forward current of 1.6mA. It also has a maximum output current of 20mA and a maximum output voltage of 30V. Additionally, it has an isolation voltage of 5kVrms, which is suitable for use in harsh environment applciations.
