Introduction

A single diode rectifier, or simply called FR16D02, is a device used for the rectification and regulation of electric current of alternating sinusoidal waveforms. FR16D02 Application Fields

FR16D02 is normally used in the rectification of alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), and this process is also known as AC to DC conversion. FR16D02 Working Principle

FR16D02 consists of two electrodes, an anode (-) and a cathode (+). When a sinusoidal waveform is applied to the anode, it allows an AC current to flow. During the positive half cycle, the anode becomes positive and current flows across to the cathode. During the negative half cycle, the anode becomes negative and current will not be allowed to crossover, thus blocking the current. In other words, only positive voltage is able to flow through the diode and this is how AC is converted to DC.The internal junction of FR16D02 is known as the depletion layer. This layer is filled with negative ions and serves as a barrier to current flow. The application of a positive voltage causes electrons to flow across the negative space and as a result, current begins to flow through the device. The magnitude of the current depends on the size of the depletion layer and the applied voltage.
