FSUSB74MPX is a four-channel multiplexer designs, constructed from two single-pole-eight-throw (SP8T) analog switches, four control inputs, and eight data inputs and outputs. The two SP 8T switches are controlled individually by the control inputs called S0, S1 and S2. The 8 inputs are divided into two groups of four, and the same group of inputs is connected to the same switch. The output data is taken from the outputs (D3 to D0) of the switches.

The working principle of the FSUSB74MPX is to multiplex the eight data inputs, by using the three control inputs, called S0, S1, and S2. These three signals are decodedin the two switches and accordingly, the switch is activated. By selectively activating the switch, each data input is multiplexed to the outputs individually. For example, when S0 is logic low and S1 and S2 are logic high, then the output data at D7 will be the same as the input at B0. Similarly, when the S0 is logic high and S1 and S2 are logic low, then the output data at D0 will be the same as the input at B7. In other words, when the control lines S0, S1 and S2 change values, then the output data also changes and gets selected from the respective data inputs.

Its isolation voltage is usually much higher than other switches, which makes it ideal for applications where voltage isolation is key, for example, in military and aerospace applications. It does not introduce any signal distortion, due to its low on-resistance, resulting in a crisp and clean signal.
