Solid State Relays

Solid State Relays (SSR) are electrical switches that use semiconductor technology in switching operations. They are similar to mechanical relays in that they can be used to switch electrical currents on and off in much the same way, however, their solid state construction makes them much more reliable, with a greater life span, and much less prone to potential failure due to open circuits. The G3VM-61GR1(TR) is a type of SSR, and is used for a wide variety of hot switching and current control applications.

Applications of the G3VM-61GR1(TR)

The G3VM-61GR1(TR) SSR is one of the more popular SSRs due to its usage in a variety of different applications. In industrial automation, it is used in temperature control, motor control, safety circuits, and current limiting circuits. In home automation, it is used to control lighting, appliances, ventilation, security systems, and a variety of other functions.

The current rating of the G3VM-61GR1(TR) is 10 A/250 VAC, meaning it is designed to handle up to 10 amps of electrical current at a voltage of 250VAC. The switching speed is relatively fast, being rated up to 0.1ms operation time. The G3VM-61GR1(TR) can operate at temperatures ranging from -30 to + 80°C, allowing it to be used in a variety of applications.

Working Principle of the G3VM-61GR1(TR)

The G3VM-61GR1(TR) SSR uses a static, bidirectional IGBT with a built-in free-wheeling diode for switching electrical current from an input circuit to an output circuit. The input circuit is typically powered by AC/DC sources, such as a 120VAC or a 24V DC power supply. The output circuit is typically connected to a load, such as a motor or a lamp. When the input voltage triggers the Gate of the IGBT, a conductive path is made from the input to the output circuit, and the load is powered.

Once the input voltage is removed, or drops below the turn-off point of the IGBT, the conductive path is broken and the load is no longer powered. This can be achieved with a simple flip of a switch, or, depending on the G3VM-61GR1(TR) configuration, with a PWM or even a digital logic signal. The SSR is protected by an in-built over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection circuit, making it a reliable and robust device for a variety of applications.
