GDP503L120V is a contactor, a device used to control circuits by connecting and disconnecting an electrical power supply. It belongs to the family of electro-mechanical relays referred to as contactors or isolators. GDP503L120V is a 3-pole non-reversing contactor with a 120V coil voltage.

Application Field

Working Principle

GDP503L120V contactors have two main mechanisms that make it work: the electrical component and the mechanical component. The electrical component is the coil that is energized when an electrical current is applied. This creates a magnetic pull, which in turn causes a connected armature to move due to magnetic force. When the coil is de-energized, the armature falls back into place due to gravity and the contactor is de-energized.

The mechanical component is composed of a contactor\'s stationary contacts, moving contacts, and auxiliary contacts. The stationary contacts are housed in a contactor\'s fuse box where a coil is wired to the respective contact. When electricity is applied to the coil, a magnetic force is generated which causes an armature to move and connect to the incoming electrical power. When the coil is de-energized, the armature is pulled back by gravity and the contactor is open.

GDP503L120V contactors are also equipped with auxiliary contacts, which are normally spring-loaded contacts that are used to switch an auxiliary electric load when the contactor is switched on. Auxiliary contacts generally have two states, normally closed and normally open. For example, when the contactor is switched on, the normally closed auxiliary contact will open, and when it is switched off, the normally open auxiliary contact will close.

The GDP503L120V contactor is capable of switching high power currents and ensures overload protection for connected motors and lighting circuits. Due to its high current rating, it is perfect for the protection of motors, resistive and inductive loads.
