Transient voltage surge suppressors (TVS) are solid-state protective devices designed to protect electronic circuits and equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other causes. TVS diodes provide overvoltage protection against spikes, surges, and other electrical transients of short duration. They protect electronic circuits from voltage transients that could damage or disrupt their normal operation by absorbing energy from an incoming electrical transient and safely diverting it to ground.
GL05T-E3-18 Application Field and Working Principle
The GL05T-E3-18 is an unidirectional, 400W SIL-SIP diode transient voltage suppressor (TVS) designed to protect sensitive electrical and electronic equipment from high voltage transients typically caused by inductive switching loads, lightning, SSOs (Surge Spread Oscillations), EFTs (Electrical Fast Transients), and other power line surges. GL05T-E3-18 is especially suited for telecom, industrial, and computer applications.
The TVS protects a circuit by redirecting the incoming transient energy into a low impedance path to ground. The low impedance path acts as a drain, quickly discharging the surge energy. By sacrificing itself in this way, the TVS avoids damage to the protected load. TVS devices are capable of withstanding much larger transient surges than other protective components, such as MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) or gas tubes.
The GL05T-E3-18 has a low on-state voltage (VF) and provides overvoltage protection for both line to line and line to ground applications. It is designed to protect against high voltage transients that can occur between the hot (live) and neutral or ground lines.
