Rockers switches are one of the most popular types of manual devices used to remotely control large machinery and industrial equipment. Invented in 1957 by General Rubber & Specialty, who patented the GRSN-2011-2002, they were designed to handle applications of greater power than existing manual switches. Rockers are typically either two-position or three-position devices, meaning they can be used to turn power on and off or operate several circuits at once.
GRSN-2011-2002 rockers are typically double-pole single-throw devices, meaning they function much like a double pole switch, with just one button to operate it. They are ideal for applications where a large quantity of power needs to be wired within a tight space, as the double-pole feature ensures greater control over each circuit. They also require less current draw than traditional switches, making them much more energy efficient.
When it comes to their working principles, GRSN-2011-2002 rockers are well-suited for heavy duty applications such as controlling high amperage loads, as well as in potentially explosive environments. The rocker switch design relies on a switch component which is known as a toggle lever, which is connected to a toggle plunger. The toggle lever is connected to two stationary contact points, which are also connected to two moving contacts, known as the toggle arm.
When the lever is pressed in one direction, the plunger moves the switch into the ‘on’ position where it will stay in that condition until the lever is released or pushed in the opposite direction. When the lever is moved back to the side, the plunger will move the switch into the ‘off’ position, where it will stay until it is pressed again.
GRSN-2011-2002 rockers are suitable for a variety of applications as they have the ability to turn on/off a large quantity of power. This includes powering industrial equipment and machinery, as well as operating multiple circuits at the same time. They are available in both single and double-pole versions with a variety of ratings, coil voltages and speeds of operation.
In addition, as GRSN-2011-2002 rockers are typically low cost and streamlined, they offer a high cost-to-performance ratio. As they are composed of relatively few parts, they are also much less susceptible to failure due to the environment or wear and tear.
Rockers switches have become a leading choice for controlling and powering large industrial applications, thanks to their energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ease of installation and maintenance. The increased number of applications for GRSN-2011-2002 rockers has also allowed companies to significantly reduce their costs, in addition to increasing safety and better ergonomics for operators.
