The GS3481-INTE3Z is a new generation of linear video-processing integrated circuit that is designed to provide a wide range of application fields. This new generation of circuitry provides a high-performance, yet cost-effective solution to today’s video-processing needs. The GS3481-INTE3Z provides the following features in an integrated package: embedded video encoding, image stabilization, de-interlacing, frame rate conversion, video/image filtering, automatic video level control, video/image-based bit-plane switching, and active video-source synchronization.

The GS3481-INTE3Z is based on a highly integrated platform, which is capable of managing large amounts of data in real-time. The IC provides two different I/O ports for video data. The first port, designated as “data out”, is used for outputting processed video data to a video encode, VCR, or other video device. The second port, designated as “data in”, is used for inputting video data from a video-source device, such as a television, digital camera, or other video source. The I/O ports are compliant with popular digital formats, including YCbCr, YUV, and S-Video.

In addition to the versatile I/O capabilities, the GS3481-INTE3Z also provides a variety of new features, including:

• High-Quality Video-Processing Capabilities: The GS3481-INTE3Z is capable of providing a number of high-quality video-processing functions, such as edge-preserving smoothing, automatic video-level control, de-interlacing, image stabilization, frame rate conversion, video/image filtering, and video/image based bit-plane switching. For providing a wide range of video-processing functions, the GS3481-INTE3Z is fully compliant with popular international video formats and standards, such as the Digital Visual Interface (DVI), the Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC), and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

• Memory Management: The memory management capabilities of the GS3481-INTE3Z are dynamic, allowing the IC to adjust the optimal number of frames per second based on the video source. The memory management features of the IC provide an efficient solution to image size/quality/process-time control.

• Video Encoding: The video encoding capability of the GS3481-INTE3Z is based on the MPEG-4 video compression format. The MPEG-4 video compression format provides a highly efficient solution for encoding video data in order to reduce the data size while providing high-quality video. In addition, the GS3481-INTE3Z also provides hardware support for the Adjustable Macro Block (ABM) video encoding format.

• Power Management: To reduce power consumption, the GS3481-INTE3Z features intelligent power management capabilities. The power management features of the GS3481-INTE3Z make it an ideal solution for applications requiring low-power consumption and extended battery life.
