GSAP 300 is a type of protective device used in electrical power systems to limit and protect circuits from surges and overloads. It is also known as Ground-fault Sensor and Arc-Fault Detection Circuit Breaker (FDCB). These devices are designed to detect ground-fault conditions in circuits and provide instantaneous trip protection, by automatically opening the main contact of the circuit, whenever an over-current condition is detected.The GSAP 300 is a two-pole device, with a built-in sensing means, to detect any type of ground-fault or over-current conditions on a branch circuit. The device consists of a set of two identical fuses, which when installed, form a double break circuit. The two fuses are mounted on a common shaft, so that the currents in the two fuses must be balanced at all times. If either of the fuses senses an over-current, the sensing means will cause the contact of the fuse to open. The contact will then close again after a predetermined time period, if the circuit is in balance. If the fault is still present, the contact will remain open, tripping the breaker.The GSAP 300 is also capable of distinguishing between ground-faults and normal over-current conditions, by monitoring the balance of the currents in the two fuses. If a low-resistance ground-fault occurs, the contact will trip the breaker circuit immediately.The working principle of this device is based on the principle of electro-magnetic induction. The two fuses contain a coil of wire that is wound around a magnet. When electrical current flows through the circuit, it creates a magnetic field, which is then detected by the coil of the fuse.
