Gas discharge tube arresters (GDT) are an essential part of any operating environment, providing protection from hazardous high voltages, surges, lightning strikes, and electrical noise. The GTCC23-141M-R01-2 is a compact rectangular metal-oxide varistor (MOV) arrester designed to protect against over and under voltage situations, with a maximum continuous operating voltage of 8 kV.

A GDT arrester is basically a sealed device filled with a noble gas, such as argon or nitrogen, and a gap between two metal electrodes. When a voltage spike exceeds the breakdown voltage of the device, the material’s resistivity decreases and the device begins to conduct, diverting the excess current away from the equipment.

When the voltage returns to a safe level, the resistivity of the material increases, restoring the device to its previous state and allowing normal current to flow. This process happens in nanoseconds, ensuring fast and effective protection for the equipment.
