GUS6 technology is a type of gasification process developed by Cavallo Energy, a leader in renewable fuels. The process utilizes a patented gasification process to produce a clean burning synthetic fuel, which can be blended with conventional fuels or used alone in applications ranging from vehicle fleets to residential, commercial, and industrial sites.GUS6 technology offers several advantages over traditional fossil fuels. It produces a clean burning synthetic fuel with low emission levels. The fuel produced is higher in BTU content than traditional fossil fuels, with the synthesis process taking place at pressures above atmospheric, making the gaseous product easy to store and transport. GUS6 technology also produces high yields of liquid hydrocarbons (C5+, less than 0.4% sulfur, less than 0.2% nitrogen) when compared to traditional fuel sources. In addition, improved fuel cleanliness in comparison to traditional sources is being seen due to the elimination of unwanted hydrocarbons, ash, VOCs, and heavy metals.The GUS6 process is based on three primary unit operations that are common to most gasification processes. These include, in sequence, gasification, reforming, and syngas conditioning. The technology utilizes proven equipment for each of the unit operations, and works by first preheating the feedstock to higher temperatures in order to increase the reaction rate. The preheating can be accomplished either by combustion of the feedstock itself, or with hot product gases recirculated from the reforming and syngas conditioning unit operations.The gasification unit operation is a thermochemical process that produces a synthesis gas consisting of primarily carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2) from the feedstock. This highly fuel rich gas can be used in its current form or further reacted in the reforming unit operation in order to reform the gas composition to syngas with proportions of CO, H2, and CO2 more suitable for efficient combustion. The reforming unit is designed to maximize the production of syngas with ratios of CO/H2 and CO2/CO of 1.0 and 0.2, respectively.The syngas conditioning unit is designed to condition and purify the synthesized gas, removing moisture, sulfur compounds, and trace hydrocarbons. This unit operation consists of a series of components such as scrubbers, sweetening absorbers, and dryers, which work in combination to remove contaminants. The gas exiting the syngas conditioning unit is ready for combustion with conventional fuel sources, or for production of synthetic fuel in applications requiring higher energy values such as transportation and residential/commercial heating.GUS6 technology offers a reliable, clean burning synthetic fuel source for the future.
