Optoisolators are solid state devices which are designed to provide electrical isolation between two or more circuits. The H11B3S series of optoisolators offer reliable electrical protection between light-activated and non-light-activated circuit components, making them ideal for applications where a single isolator is required to avoid interference or unwanted signal paths.

The H11B3S optoisolator consists of a light-activated, two-lead, SIL package with a non-light activated transistor output. The optoisolator operates on a principle of indirect coupling of electric power and signal paths, with an optically generated electric current output device which is isolated and protected from the input circuitry by a barrier of a transparent impedance medium.

The H11B3S optoisolator is designed for a broad range of applications, such as automotive, industrial control, medical and telecom, as well as consumer and general purpose applications.

This optoisolator device offers excellent electrical isolation, as well as reliable and repeatable switching with long life. It is designed with a low profile package to enable space savings in the application. The unit provides a high degree of isolation between two portion of a circuit, and is compatible with other standard optoisolator modules.

The working principle of the H11B3S optoisolator is based on the interaction between light-activated and non-light-activated components. The optoisolator consists of a light-activated LED, which passes a light pulse to a non-light-activated transistor, resulting in an electric current output. The LED of the optoisolator is the primary component of the device and acts as a light-activated current source.

When a voltage is applied to the LED, a light pulse is generated by the LED and passed to the non-light-activated transistor. The transistor receives the light pulse, and based on its characteristics, it then creates an electric current output. This current output is then transferred across the transparent impedance medium which isolates the input side from the output side of the device, thus providing electrical isolation between the two circuits.

The H11B3S optoisolator is also designed with an internal current limiting feature. This feature helps in protecting the transistor from the damage of a short circuit, and also prevents over current from occurring.
