The HCPL-2731-300E is part of Avago Technologies\' HCPL-27xx family of optoisolators – transistor, photovoltaic output. As with most optoisolators, the device uses an LED (Opto-Coupling element) to safely transfer the signal from the electric circuit satifying UL 1577 insulation requirements, while having an optocoupler output transistor used to switch a load. This makes it suitable for isolating noisy, “dirty” or dual power sources in circuits which demand reliable electrical isolation and a low power consumption.
