Optoisolators - Logic Output is an important application field and working principle of HCPL-5601 that involves isolating logic signals and providing a method of communication. HCPL-5601 is a highly reliable, optically isolated, 2-channel logic output optoisolator that meets international industry standards. Its purpose is to isolate logic signals, both logic highs (logic 1s) and logic lows (logic 0s), and provide a method of communication across electrical isolation boundaries. It operates on a wide operating range of 5 V to 30 V and has a maximum guaranteed logic high output voltage of 30V. It also features 100 mA peak output current capability, 4 V typical output voltage, 1 μA typical input drive current, and 5 V open collector output.

The working principle of HCPL-5601 begins with the input signal source. An 8 mA minimum peak current source is required to drive the input pin of the logic output optoisolator. If the input is driven with a higher source current, the output voltage will be greater and the output voltage overshoot will be lower. The signal is photoharvested and transmitted through an optical channel, thereby providing electrical isolation between the input and the output. On the other side, the output side of the optoisolator is ready to accept the digital signal.

The response time of HCPL-5601 is very fast. It is capable of switching up to 33 MHz and provides isolation between the output and input circuitry. Its low input-current requirement and wide output current range make it an excellent choice for designing complex communication systems. The time delay from input to output is minimized, allowing for high-speed signal transfer.
