Applications

HDT0004 snap action switches are a type of electromechanical switch used in a wide variety of applications. Commonly used for power control and level setting, the most common types are limit switches. HDT0004 switches are among the most frequently used and high-quality limit switches available today, and are designed for sharp-edged mechanical motion control for peak level setting in high amperage loads. Additionally, they can also be used in low voltage/current applications, including settings related to controlling of lighting, home appliances, toys, and electronic tools.

Working Principle

The snap action switch is operated by either a direct or indirect gate. Both involve a mechanism that causes the contacts to move when the switch is activated by the gate. The direct gate provides direct contact to the switch, whereas an indirect gate is connected to another element that physically activates the switch. This element can be a single pole device, two pole device, or any other type of circuit device.

When the switch is activated by the gate, the contacts move and make contact with the corresponding pole of the switch. This causes a current path to be established which allows the device to turn on or off. The majority of the switching action takes place within the contacts, which are either titanium or cobalt-based materials with gold plating. The contacts can also be made of other materials, depending on the application.

Once the contacts are activated, the force required to close or open the switch is determined by the contact pressure. The contact pressure is generally set by a spring located inside the switch housing. The spring has more force applied when the switch is inactive and less force when the switch is active. The amount of force applied is determined by a series of weights and levers, so the switch can be adjusted to actuate at a certain level of pressure.

When the contact pressure is reached, the switch will break the current and move into the next state. This motion is what is referred to as “snap action”. When the switch is released, the contacts will move back to their original position, thus resetting the switch.

HDT0004 snap action switches are typically used in extreme conditions, such as those encountered in high voltage or high temperature applications. The snap action provided by the switch allows the contacts to quickly and reliably open or close, meaning that the switch can respond quickly to the changing conditions and keep the equipment running efficiently and safely.
