It measures angular position relative to an start/reference point, as well as dual-channel absolute linear position. The single-turn resolution is 18 bits, while the multi-turn resolution is 16 bits. It also has an optional analog version.

Working Principle

The HEDM-5500#B02 uses a hybrid sensing technology which combines both incremental and absolute measurements in a single device, hence its name. Incremental sensors detect the angular motion of a shaft, providing feedback on the speed and direction of the shaft\'s rotation. The absolute system measures the exact angle of the shaft at every instance. The hybrid system in the HEDM-5500#B02 brings together the best of these two sensor systems, providing the inner accuracy of an absolute system and the outer speed of an incremental system.

At the core of the HEDM-5500#B02 is a non-magnetic, non-contact service wheel that is synchronously driven with an induction motor. This wheel is composed of a magnetic shield and two families of inner sectors. Each sector is optically encoded with a binary volume, representing single-bit information. With its unique design, the HEDM-5500#B02 can detect the edge of a sector and generate interrupt signals to indicate the direction of rotation. The data acquired from this optical sensing system is then fed into a signal processor which decodes the signals and outputs the angular position of the shaft.
