Working Principle of HI3-0303-5

The HI3-0303-5 utilizes charge-balanced, multiplexing and demultiplexing techniques. It is a bi-directional analog switch comprised of four ESD-protected JFETs, one on each side. When no voltage is applied to the gate, the voltage offsets between the two sides of the switch are equal. In this case, no current is allowed to flow between sides, thus eliminating the possibility of capacitively coupled interference.

As the gate voltage is applied, the two sides of the switch at the corresponding side move differentially, causing the bias on the two sides of the switch to vary. This creates a switched bias control, causing the switch to move a current between the two sides of the switch. This mechanism enables the HI3-0303-5 to provide higher voltage isolation and linearity than other switches that use discrete JFETs.

The HI3-0303-5 also incorporates ESD protection diodes internal to the switch to provide protection from electrostatic discharge. The switch also enables a low power drain current to be achieved by measuring the gate voltage between an open and a closed position. This helps extend battery life and reduce power consumption.

When the switch is open, there is no current flow between the two sides of the switch, thus eliminating the possibility of capacitively coupled interference. When the switch is closed, current is only allowed to flow in one direction, providing higher isolation and lower power consumption.

Finally, the HI3-0303-5 also includes a Schottky diode protection circuit that provides additional protection against overvoltage and reverse polarity protection. This ensures that the switch can operate reliably in harsh environments.
