Analog switches provide a mechanism of routing signals between two points. They are used in many application fields, including audio and instrumentation, test and measurement, radio-frequency (RF) systems, power electronics and radar systems. The HI3-0506-5 analog switch is a representative example of one analog switch type.

The HI3-0506-5 analog switch is a 3-bit configurable single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch. It has an analog signal range of +/- 12V, meaning it can handle signals with an amplitude up to 12 volts. In the multiplexer-demultiplexer mode, the HI3-0506-5 is used to switch between a group of analog signals. The HI3-0506-5 requires the following additional inputs: multiplexer address pins (X0, X1, X2) and analog inputs 0-7 (INA0, INA1, INA2, INA3, INB0, INB1, INB2, INB3). The multiplexer address pins X0, X1 and X2 are used to select which of the analog inputs is connected to the outputs. When all three multiplexer address pins are de-asserted, output Y1 will be equal to input INA0, and output Y2 will be equal to input INB0. When bit X0 is asserted, output Y1 will be equal to input INA1, and output Y2 will be equal to input INB1. In this way, the HI3-0506-5 can act as a multiplexer, allowing a group of analog signals to be switched between two output signals.

The HI3-0506-5 is a versatile switch that is used in a variety of applications.
