Humidity, Moisture Sensors are important elements in industrial production, whether it is monitoring of internal finished product conditions or more expensive external environmental conditions. It\'s necessary to use specific measuring tools to detect humidity in these kinds of circumstances. The HIH-4000-002 humidity/moisture sensor is a useful sensor designed specifically for these circumstances. The HIH-4000-002 is a relative humidity/moisture sensor which, unlike absolute humidity sensors, only detects relative humidity between 0-100%. More precisely,the device can measure relative humidity in the 0-95% range with 5% accuracy and within 95-100% range with 10% accuracy. It is small enough to fit into tight spaces and is relatively inexpensive to purchase.In general, a HIH-4000-002 sensor uses a capacitive method to detect the relative humidity in a specific environment. This capacitive humidity property is basically a function of relative humidity and temperature. The capacitive method works through the alcohol or the hygroscopic material that has been placed in a porous membrane. When exposed to high humidity air the porous membrane will absorb more and more water until it reaches a certain level of saturation. This variation on the capacitive method allows for the accurate measurement of the relative humidity in an environment.The HIH-4000-002\'s have three main components to make sure that the sensor is working correctly. First, there is the wafer layer which is the protective layer of ceramic insulation which is placed between the electrical lead and the actual detecting element. This protective layer protects the device itself from the effects of temperature and humidity on the sensing element. Second, there is the sensing element. This is generally made up of hygroscopic material. When exposed to humidity this material will absorb the water thus creating a variation in capacitance between the two plates.Third, the HIH-4000-002s have a filter which is placed between the electrical leads and the actual sensing element. This filter helps to reduce any electrical noise from other electrical components and ensures that the sensor is only measuring the intended humidity/moisture.The working principle for HIH-4000-002 is simple and efficient. As stated before, the device works by measuring the capacitance of a hygroscopic material. This capacitance is then converted into an electrical signal which is sent back to a control unit. This control unit is then able to analyse the signal received from the HIH-4000-002 and then display it in an easy to read format, which can then be used to determine the humidity/moisture levels in the environment.The HIH-4000-002 is a useful and cost-effective device that is designed to measure ambient humidity and moisture in difficult environmental conditions. It uses the capacitive method to accurately measure the relative humidity in an environment without being affected by temperature and electrical noise.
