HMC158 is a globally deployable RF chip integrated radio receiver vector down converter (Rx VDC) for wireless applications which includes a half-rate integer-N frequency synthesizer (SS), a mix-down path composed of Gilbert cell multipliers and low-pass filters (LPF), a 3-state variable-attenuator-based programmable gain stages (PGA), a signal-processing unit (SPU) supports high linearity performance and a powerful DOB reduction mechanism by implementing a analog pre-distortion, an RF VDC module integrated with an advanced digital IF processor (DSP).
HMC158 has a wide application field and provides the best combination of low complexity for frequency synthesis, linearity, noise level, and size. It is the ideal choice for many RF communications systems such as, Global Positioning System (GPS), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi applications. Moreover, HMC158 also has excellent integration capability and can perform forward-channel I/Q signal up-conversion as well as receiver linearization and gain control.
HMC158 utilizes an advanced frequency synthesizer which enables carrier frequency step sizing control in the range of 1-250MHz. This allows for reduced sideband noise and improved performance for systems with high-frequency requirements. In addition, the power/gain range is adjusted from -12dBm to +48dBm using the PGA to generate the desired overall gain. Also, the dynamic power/gain control feature provides added flexibility by enabling users to select single or multi-level gains across multiple carriers and frequency bands.
HMC158 also offers an efficient digital IF processor which provides cross-interference rejection between multiple carriers while increasing the SNR of each channel. The integrated DSP is capable of executing a variety of digital filtering functions such as pulse shaping, pulse compression, and spectral shaping to reduce out-of-band distortion. Furthermore, the integrated digital IF processor can improve receiver performance by reducing near-end jitter, adjacent channel interference, and fading.
At the signal front-end, HMC158 is equipped with an analog pre-distortion and low-order harmonic linearization circuit, which helps reduce over-all distortion in the output signal and reduce its out-of-band undesirable emissions. Further, RF two step LDOs are integrated in the HMC158, which helps supply stability and robustness, especially to applications where low-noise is required. Last but not least, the integrated pre-distortion circuitry of HMC158 ensures maximum linearity performance for both near and far end users with minimal effect on the adjacent channel performance.
HMC158 is a cost-efficient and low-power solution ideal for any design where maximum receiver performance is required.
