HMC7024LP5ETR, is a low noise, low power PLL clock generator family with a power supply voltage of 2.5 V or 3.3 V. It is designed to accept one or two PECL/LVPECL/LVDS reference clock inputs, and generate one or two low noise and tight skew differential PECL/ LVPECL/LVDS clock outputs. It is easy to be used in Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) applications.
Application Field
The HMC7024LP5ETR is used for high speed and low jitter systems in numerous applications, such as enterprise networking, wireless communications, storage, and multimedia. Data rates up to 15 Ghz, and jitter performance of ≤ 1 ps peak to peak, make the HMC7024LP5ETR suitable for high performance clock and timing applications, such as Fiber Channel, SONET/SDH, PCI Express, SERDES, CPRI, and JESD204B.
The small size and low-cost nature of the HMC7024LP5ETR also make it a suitable choice for mid-range FPGA-style data acquisition systems. This IC will support a broad range of Frequency Synthesis applications in receivers, transmitters, and data acquisition systems. The HMC7024LP5ETR can be used as clock and frequency generators, modems, sound cards, and optical modulators.
Working Principle
The HMC7024LP5ETR consists of an input reference clock buffer, a VCXO frequency synthesizer, and a differential PECL/LVPECL/LVDS output driver. The LVPECL outputs support 699 mV differential swings and the LVDS outputs support 500 mV differential swings. Both the outputs are low noise and have a very tight skew.
The input reference clock buffer is used to buffer and amplify a reference clock from an external source. This signal is then inputted to a programmable frequency synthesizer. This synthesizer allows for frequency synthesization of up to 40 GHz. The synthesizer then outputs the signal to the differential PECL/ LVPECL/LVDS output driver. The output driver then amplifies the signal and produces a low noise and low skew differential signal.
The HMC7024LP5ETR also contains many features that make it suitable for clock and frequency generation in high speed applications. This IC supports a wide range of output frequencies and supports multiple reference clock inputs. The IC also supports jitter attenuating technology, as well as programmable phase and frequency offset characteristics. The HMC7024LP5ETR also includes a power saving “stand-by” mode that allows the user to reduce their overall power usage when the device is not in use.
