HV100K5-G Application Field and Working Principle
HV100K5-G belongs to hot swap controllers of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits), and is designed to provide fault monitoring, power sequencing, and system level protection for servers, storage and networking applications. It is suitable for point-of-load (POL) applications, power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and medium-power isolated DC-DC converters. When mounted on a board, the HV100K5-G controller will operate instead of an individual shunt resistor, improving system reliability, safety, and the overall size.
Application Field
HV100K5-G hot swap controllers are mainly suitable for telecom, enterprise network, server, storage, and medium-power dc-dc converters.HV100K5-G hot swap controllers can be used to maximize protection for high-value equipment and data, as well as point-of-load (POL) applications, power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and medium-power isolated DC-DC converters. It is able to replace traditional physically discrete components such as fuses, suppressor diodes, and current sensing resistors, reducing the cost and size of the whole system.
Working Principle
The HV100K5-G hot swap controller is designed to provide fault monitoring, power sequencing, and system level protection for POL applications, PoE, and medium-power isolated DC-DC converters. It provides three core functions: power switch control, over-current protection, and slew rate control.The power switch control circuit provides enhanced performance and system-level protection. It works by turning the DC/DC converter switch on and off via an external power MOSFET.The over-current protection circuit provides current sense and limit protection. It will support device operation up to 100 amps, while respecting the data sheet limits.The slew-rate control circuit is designed to ensure a smooth transition of the output voltage when the switch is being turned on or off. This prevents spikes in voltage and current, thus extending the lifetime of the system components.
By integrating these three functions into one integrated device, the HV100K5-G hot swap controller not only enables advanced system level protection but also reduces the system cost and design time. With this hot swap controller, it is possible to effectively protect sensitive equipment from sudden power surges and minimize the risk of voltage dropouts.
