The ICE3A5565I is an offline Power Factor Correction Integrated Circuit (PFC IC). It is designed to regulate power with high efficiency, in order to reduce electricity consumption and emissions, by optimally controlling energy in AC/DC power sources. The ICE3A5565I is designed to meet increasing standards of energy efficiency and is suitable for various applications in regulated offline Power Factor Correction AC-DC circuits. Working Principle: The ICE3A5565I dynamically adjusts the average current flow through the boost inductor and the switching of the power MOSFET, such that it meets the target input power factor. The device consists of two parts, an AC/DC conversion circuit and a feedback control loop. The conversion circuit consists of the diode bridge rectifier, the boost inductor, the power MOSFET, the output filter capacitor and their associated components. The feedback control loop uses a steep ramping signal, generated by the internal ramp generator, to modulate the switching of the power MOSFET. This ramping signal is used to control the average value of the inductor current, thus controlling the average input power factor. The internal error amplifier compares the sensed inductor current to the reference voltage and manipulates the error signal based on the target input power factor. The output of the error amplifier modulates the current in the gate driver stage. This in turn controls the switching of the power MOSFET.
