ICS2305M-1

The ICS2305M-1 is a high-performance clock synthesizer and dual low-power, low-noise clock drivers. It is suitable for applications that require low power and low noise such as telecom and datacom backplanes. The phase locked loop consists of a programmable voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a phase detector, a loop filter and a synthesizer control. The VCO produces an output clock signal which is compared to the reference clock signal by the phase detector. The phase detector generates a voltage proportional to the phase difference between them. This voltage is filtered by the loop filter and then used to control the VCO. When the voltage reaches equilibrium, the VCO stays at a constant frequency determined by the loop filter characteristics.

The ICS2305M-1 integrates two independent low-power, low-noise clock outputs. The outputs support both single-ended CMOS and differential LVDS outputs. It is also programmable for various operating frequencies from 1MHz to 200MHz, with synthesizable frequency steps of 1KHz to 200KHz, jitter performance of less than 100fs, power consumption of only 7.5 mA, and a supply voltage range of 1.8V to 3.3V. In terms of applications, the ICS2305M-1 could be used in networking and telecom backplanes with high synchronization requirements, and storage applications such as SAS and RAID drives.
