The ICS8733BY-01LF is a high edge rate, low skew, Clock/Timing Generator, which is ideal for synchronous memory systems as well as networking and communications equipment. It is designed to provide an ultra-stable clock signal with a constant output frequency even when subjected to temperature variations and noise. The ICS8733BY-01LF can be used in a variety of clock applications, including frequency division, phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency multiplication, and digital frequency synthesis.
The ICS8733BY-01LF first starts with a stable reference frequency; standard reference frequencies can range anywhere from 8 to 50 MHz. The reference frequency is then divided down to the desired output frequency via a programmable divider. The divider is set via two parallel programmable inputs with 8-bit resolution. The divider is then enabled, allowing the device to provide a stable output frequency based on the reference frequency and division ratio.
Furthermore, the ICS8733BY-01LF features a 3-state control logic, allowing the user to control the output frequency for multiple outputs. This feature is analogous to the Phase-Locked Loop (PLL); when the logic port is applying a logic high voltage to the device, the device is locked to the reference frequency. When the logic voltage is dropped, the frequency division is prevented, and the output frequency is no longer determined by the reference frequency, allowing the user to control the output frequency.
