DC DC Converters – IE0303D application field and working principle
Integrated Electronics (IE) IE0303D is a DC DC converter module in the family of step-down switching regulators. This family offers a wide range of output voltage and current and very high efficiency levels, providing the flexibility to meet many power supply design requirements for an improved system´s reliability. Along with the input voltage range from 3.3V to 24V, an integrated heat sink, up to 95% efficiency and protection features for overcurrent. The working principle of IE0303D revolves around the concept of bypassing the energy storage elements in the power supply making the energy transfer more efficient. For this, it employs an internal P-channel MOSFET. The internal P-channel MOSFET is connected in series between the input and output node of the power supply. This MOSFET is then controlled with a Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) that receives feedback from the output node. When the voltage at the output node achieves the desired value, the PWM signal is shut off, thus limiting the current flow from the input node to the output node. During the time when the PWM signal is on, a consistent current is delivered from the output node to the input node.
