The ISL6150CB is a high performance hot-swap controller with integrated driver MOSFET output. It’s the first PMIC to unify control, protection, charge and load circuit operations within a monolithic Hot Swap controller, delivering unprecedented system integration. The ISL6150CB is built upon employment of advanced charge, load and control circuitry, that support hot insertion/removal of point-of-load supply without having to shut it down. Highly configurable, ISL6150CB offers adjustable current limit settings using a low cost external resistor.

An integrated two step current limit scheme allows the user to first set a soft current limit, which can easily be adjusted or scaled via an external resistor. The soft current limit is used to protect the board and system against an overload condition. If the soft limit is violated, the ISL6150CB will automatically reduce the output current and power until the fault has been corrected. If the overload persists, the device will be Tri-Stated and the system level Guardian IC will respond.

In addition to soft current limitation, the ISL6150CB also provides independent sensing and limiting of the end point output voltage to prevent over voltage conditions from occurring. The charge loop, combined with external setting resistors and MOSFET devices, integrate to control and deliver the power through high speed, low distortion transition cycles. Temperature monitoring helps protect the device by providing thermal shutdown when the junction temperature exceeds a specific high temperature limit by more than a preset margin.

The ISL6150CB is applicable for a wide range of hot-swap designs including industrial, telecom, networking, digital media processor and other power sensitive systems that require multiple supplies that need to be hot swapped.

The ISL6150CB controller monitors the output voltage and system current demands. The three-in-one integrated control architecture manages energy delivery, protection, and control with one device. The integrated gate driver provides quick and efficient power delivery, while the high performance current limit control establishes precisely adjustable I2T protections.

The input port maintains flexible power control functionality with internal charge and discharge circuitry that ensures reliable start-up and shutdown operations of the system.An integrated VCC supply maintains power to internal logic gates and allows path isolation to the load upon shutdown. Programmable out-of-regulation (OOR) behaviour with configurable hysteresis and threshold levels, enables precise switching regulation point control.

The ISL6150CB integrates two levels of OCPs with IMAX range up to 30A per channel, and dampened medical mode is also supported. Protection is provided by short circuit and over temperature protection. The power-good pin (PGOOD) reports the output state of the Hot Swap controller.
