ISO1H801GAUMA1 application field and working principle

ISO1H801GAUMA1, a power distribution switch, load driver, is a CMOS peripheral driver with chopper stabilization. It is widely used in a variety of banking applications. The device integrates two low-side input loading devices N-Channel MOSFET and one P-Channel MOSFET. This driver is also equipped with an enable input and a capability to provide gate voltage to the module.

Application Field

ISO1H801GAUMA1 power bus switch is suitable for lower power switching applications such as the ones used in notebook computers, PDA, and other similar small handheld devices. It finds applications in DC-DC converters, low-side switches, automatic LED dimming, and motor controls. It is also suitable for relay driving circuits.

Working Principle

The working principle of ISO1H801GAUMA1 power distribution switch is quite simple. It contains two N-channel MOSFETs which are connected to an Enable pin and a Supply Voltage pin. When the Enable pin is set to logic high, the N-channel MOSFETs become conductive and the current start to flow. The two N-channel MOSFETs are connected in series and controlled by the Enable pin. The output of the power distribution switch is connected to the source of the P-channel MOSFET. The on/off operation of this device is regulated by a voltage across the Enable pin.

The P-channel MOSFET acts as a buffer to the N-channel MOSFETs. It’s important to mention that the P-channel MOSFET can be driven with a higher voltage than its source or drain, due to its body diode characteristics. This makes it possible to drive the Enable pin of the N-channel MOSFETs to a voltage that is higher than that of the power supply.

The ISO1H801GAUMA1 power distribution switch integrates a chopper-stabilized output buffer that was designed for switching in harsh environments. With this integrated buffer, the device can operate over a wide temperature range (-40°C to +125°C). Furthermore, it offers current limited protection against over-temperature, over-voltage and over-current events.
