1. Describe

The ISO1211 and ISO1212DBQ devices are isolated 24V to 60V digital input receivers conforming to IEC 61131-2 Type 1, 2, and 3 characteristics. These devices support 9V to 300V DC and AC digital input modules in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor control, grid infrastructure, and other industrial applications. Unlike traditional optocoupler solutions with discrete, imprecise current-limiting circuits, ISO121x devices provide a simple, low-power solution with precise current-limiting for designing compact, high-density I/O modules. These devices do not require field-side power and can be configured to provide or receive input. ISO121x devices operate from a 2.25V to 5.5V supply range and support 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V controllers. ±60V input tolerance and reverse polarity protection help ensure input pins are protected from faults with negligible reverse current. These devices support data rates up to 4 Mbps and minimum pulse widths of 150 ns for high-speed operation. The ISO1211 device is ideal for designs that require channel-to-channel isolation, while the ISO1212 device is ideal for multi-channel space-constrained designs. Compared to traditional solutions, ISO121x devices reduce component count, simplify system design, improve performance, and reduce board temperature.

6. Function Description

The ISO1212DBQ device accepts 24V to 60V digital input signals and provides isolated digital outputs. An external resistor RSENSE connected between the INx and SENSEx pins sets the current limit drawn from the field input. An internal voltage comparator connected to the SENSEx pin determines the input voltage transition threshold. The output buffer on the control side can provide enough current to drive the status LED. The EN pin is used to enable the output buffer. A low state on the EN pin places the output buffer in a high impedance state. ISO121x devices are capable of operating at speeds up to 4 Mbps.

7. Application Information

The ISO1211 and ISO1212DBQ devices are fully integrated isolated digital input receivers conforming to IEC 61131-2 Type 1, 2, 3 features. These devices are suitable for high channel density, digital input module programmable logic controllers, and motor control digital input modules. These devices accept 24V to 60V digital input signals and provide isolated digital outputs. No field-side power supply is required. An external resistor, RSENSE on the input signal path precisely sets the current limit drawn from the field input. This current limit helps minimize power dissipation in the system. Current limit can be set for Type 1, 2 or 3 operation. This voltage transition threshold conforms to Types 1, 2 and 3 and can be further increased using an external resistor, RTHR.
