The ISO5451DW is a robust commutating MOSFET driver for high side in isolated applications. This isolated high side driver provides an isolated MOSFET voltage drive control circuit that provides isolation and protection for high side power switch applications ranging from high voltage motor drives to motor driver and board mounted power systems. It offers isolation barriers of 7.5kVrms and is compliant with various circuit protection specifications.
The ISO5451DW is designed to drive a MOSFET high side switch in an isolated power conversion system where galvanic isolation between the control side and power side of the circuit is required. It features advanced digital isolation techniques, which provide excellent performance and extremely high reliability. With its isolated control interface and high voltage protection at the power supply side, the ISO5451DW can help protect against destruction of sensitive electronics from damaging high voltage transients and from short-circuit conditions.
The application field of the ISO5451DW includes power switching in DC/DC and AC/DC isolated power converters, motor controllers and motor drivers, high side switch applications, high voltage flyback transformer drivers, Li-ion battery chargers, and automotive applications. In addition to powering switches, the ISO5451DW can also be used to control the on/off switching of other high side devices.
The working principle of the ISO5451DW is based on a hybrid topology that combines an isolated side-switched CMOS driver with a high-voltage power transistor. A primary side MOSFET is connected to the power rail, while the secondary side MOSFET is connected to the load. An isolated commutating topology allows the power side MOSFET to be turned off when the low side MOSFET is driven from the high side driver. Thus, the power side MOSFET is turned off, when the linear regulator voltage is below ground.
In a typical application, the ISO5451DW would be connected directly to the power rail and the output would be connected to the load. When the control voltage is high, the power rail path is turned on. When the control voltage is low, the power rail path is turned off. The power side can be configured to be either normally on or normally off, depending on the application. Additionally, the ISO5451DW has two failsafe protection features, enable and switch control pins, which prevent shorts from occurring in the event that the output is not properly configured.
The ISO5451DW is a robust and reliable high voltage driver for isolated motor control applications. With an isolated commutating topology, the ISO5451DW can provide excellent performance and high reliability while protecting sensitive electronics from damaging high voltage transients and short-circuit conditions. In addition, its built-in failsafe protection features further improve system reliability and simplify system design. As such, the ISO5451DW is well-suited for a variety of high side switch applications including motor control, high voltage flyback transformer drivers, Li-ion battery chargers, and automotive applications.
