Digital isolators are intelligent, passive components used to electrically isolate signals between two chip or system levels, thus preventing undesirable interference. The ISO7721FDWR is a digital isolator with Wafer-Level Chip-Scale Packaging (WLCSP) technology developed by Texas Instruments. This device complies with the ISO/IEC 61131-2 (TÜV) and ISO/IEC 61131-3 (UL) standards, and is designed to increase the noise immunity, circuit integrity and robustness of industrial systems.
The ISO7721FDWR is a single-channel digital isolator, operating from a supply voltage of 3.3V, that provides a primary side signal level of either 0.8V (low) or 2.3V (high) and a secondary signal level of either 0.8V (low) or 3.3V (high). It also includes a secondary current source capable of delivering 100mA, enabling the device to directly power low voltage logic. The device includes a high-speed gate: its propagation delay is only 7ns and its rise/fall times are just 1ns.
The operating temperature range of the ISO7721FDWR extends from -40C to +105C with a current consumption of only 4.2 mA. It can be powered with a single 3.3V supply, eliminating the need for a negative supply voltage. In addition, the device features a high common mode transient immunity rating (CMTI) of 25kV/μsec and very low offset voltage (Vos). Therefore, the device withstands any common mode voltage, eliminating the need for an expensive isolation solution.
The ISO7721FDWR is designed for use in industrial applications such as motor control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), process control systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).
