ITC1100 transistors are often referred to as BJTs (bipolar junction transistors). These devices are used in RF (radio frequency) applications, as they are capable of producing relatively high power outputs at relatively low frequencies. A typical application for the ITC1100 is in mobile phone base stations, where it is used as an amplifier to increase the signal power.

A BJT consists of three layers of semiconductor material, commonly referred to as the collector, base and emitter. When current is applied to the base, it causes electrons to be injected into the base region. This in turn causes holes to be formed in the base region, which can be used to transport charge carriers from the emitter to the collector. The resulting current gain or amplification of the BJT is determined by the ratio of the current flowing through the collector to the current flowing through the base.
