IXBOD2-08 Application Field and Working Principle

The IXBOD2-08 is a two-terminal electrolytic thyristor device, known as a Triac Undervoltage Sensing (TVS). This device is used as a protective device in controllers that interface with ancillary circuits. It activates when a preset voltage is exceeded, and can be used to isolate, control, and correct electrical circuits that are subject to damage from overvoltage or short-term overloads.

This Triac device is designed to provide continuous protection from overvoltage, and it can also be used to control the transient reaction of ancillary circuits in order to reduce the effects of transient events. It can be used for both high and low voltage applications, and is suitable for a wide range of low voltage boards such as lighting or audio-visual equipment.

Function Orientation

The core of the device is formed from a set of two thyristors mounted in an inverted ladder. When overvoltage occurs, one of the thyristors will turn on and activate the associated protection circuit, thus protecting the ancillary circuit from damage or overload.

The device is designed for high speed switching, and the response time can be as low as 1 microsecond. It has a nominal operating voltage of 1.5kV, a nominal open current of 4A, and an open circuit voltage of 2V. Its maximum temperature rating is 150°C.

Undervoltage Autoreset

The IXBOD2-08 is designed to provide protection against undervoltages, and it also includes an autoreset feature. When the ancillary circuit is disconnected from the successive circuit at the onset of an undervoltage, a signal is generated in the controller, causing it to reset and reestablish the connection. This feature ensures that any damage caused by undervoltages is minimized.

Operating Principle

The IXBOD2-08 device is based on a thyristor triac, and the pair of triacs are connected in reverse parallel on a single PCB. The thyristor is used to provide the controlling and protection functions of the device. When an overvoltage occurs, one of the thyristors will turn on and activate the associated protection circuit, thus providing the desired protection.

The IXBOD2-08 provides protection and control of ancillary circuits against overvoltages and transient events. It has a wide range of possible uses, ensuring safety and reliability in circuits where these features are important.
