Working Principle

The IXBOD2-50R thyristors utilize a four layer structure, including an intrinsic thyristor layer, gate layer, field effect layer, and a collector layer.The device is triggered when a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal and the current through the main layer across the PN junction becomes equal to the current rated on the thyristor.The device then switches on and remains in the on state until the current through the main layer drops below a certain level.When the voltage applied to the gate terminal is removed, the current through the main layer will reduce, leading to the switching off of the device.

Once triggered, IXBOD2-50R thyristors have a unique feature called “Stored Charge” which enables the device to remain in the on state for a few milliseconds after the voltage is removed from the gate terminal.This feature of IXBOD2-50R devices helps to reduce the stress on the device due to sudden voltage transients, providing a longer product lifetime.IXBOD2-50R thyristors also feature a built-in thermal shutdown protective device to protect the device from overheating due to abnormal operating conditions.
