The J8064E64 is a modular connector, also known as a jack with magnetics. It is used for applications involving both data and power. The jack allows the transmitting and receiving of data using twisted pair Ethernet cabling. Additionally, it supports power over Ethernet (PoE) to provide both power and data in one cable.
The J8064E64 jack consists of two parts. The first part is the connector, which contains the electrical contacts and the pairs of magnetics. The magnetics are used to couple the signal from the Ethernet cable into the connected device and reduce the amount of noise and EMI (electromagnetic interference). The second part is the housing, which provides mechanical support and protection for the contact pins.
The contacts inside the J8064E64 connector consist of two identical 8-pin sections. Each 8-pin section is configured for four differential pairs of signal lines and four power lines. The differential pairs are used to allow data transmission, while the power lines are used to provide PoE power. The contacts are made up of copper plated with gold for low contact resistance.
The magnetics are included in the J8064E64 to help limit both conducted EMI and radiated EMI. The magnetics also reduce common mode voltage levels and provide basic overvoltage and overcurrent protection. The cable side of the connector is also shielded to prevent EMI from entering the cable when it is connected.
The J8064E64 connector is designed to meet the IEEE 802.3ba standard for PoE networks. This includes compliant high power levels of 30 watts at 48V, as well as normal power levels of 15.4 watts at 48V. Additionally, the connector is rated for operating temperatures between -40°C and +85°C and shock/vibration per MIL-STD-202.
The J8064E64 connector is widely used in applications where both power and data need to be supplied using a single Ethernet cable, such as VoIP phones, cameras, CCTV systems, and digital signage systems. With its shielding and magnetics, it offers superior protection against electrical interference and surge than standard Ethernet connectors.
