The JAN1N4619-1 is a single diode that belongs to the Zener diode family. As diodes, they rely on the property of a semiconductor junction to allow electric current to flow in one direction and block flow in the other. Working Principle

The JAN1N4619-1 is a Zener diode, which means that it is designed to be used in the reverse-bias direction, i.e. with its anode (positive terminal) connected to a negative potential and its cathode (negative terminal) connected to positive potential. If the reverse voltage across the junction exceeds the Zener breakdown voltage of the diode, the diode will start to conduct in the reverse direction, allowing electric current to flow until the voltage across the junction is reduced back to the Zener breakdown voltage.

As the Zener breakdown voltage is constant, the diode will maintain a constant voltage across itself, which can be used to regulate the voltage of the rest of the circuit. If the junction is exposed to a voltage lower than the designed breakdown voltage, the diode will not conduct and will instead block any current trying to flow through it.
