JANTX1N6104A: TVS - Diodes
A Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diode is a specialized form of diode designed to protect an electrical circuit, component, or device from voltage levels higher than what it was designed to withstand. They are an important tool in the protection of data lines and other sensitive components against voltage transients induced by electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning, and other phenomena. The JANTX1N6104A is a type of TVS Diode which can be used in both unidirectional and bidirectional overvoltage protection applications, such as on switch mode power supplies, telecommunication equipment and instrumentation. It consists of a Diode Array having two or more series connected p-n diodes in which some of the diodes are reverse biased and some of the diodes are forward biased.The JANTX1N6104A\'s internal schematic resembles a \'crowbar\' circuit. When the voltage being protected exceeds the reverse breakdown peak point voltage level, the diode will quickly turn on, shorting out the circuit and providing maximum surge suppression. The result of this is that the voltage may be safely limited to a level that is safe for the protected device or circuit.The peak voltage-handling capability of the JANTX1N6104A is 40V, with an average power dissipation capability of 350W. This high peak-handling capability is ideal for applications such as motor control circuits, electronic switching circuits, and protection from lightning currents in electronic telecommunications.The JANTX1N6104A also has a low clamping voltage and low capacitance. As a result, it is suited for high speed data line protection, while its durable construction allows for reliable performance with a long life expectancy.The JANTX1N6104A is capable of withstanding V.C.E.S.D. (or electrostatic discharge) in excess of 25kV as per IEC 61000-4-2. This makes them ideal for use in harsh environments where ESD protection is absolutely crucial, such as in automated manufacturing processes, automotive applications, and aerospace engineering.
