Working Principle

EDLCs and Supercapacitors use the same principle, but the latter uses additional capacitors to perform their function. Both technologies are based on the principle of Electric Double Layer Capacitance (EDLC): two metal electrodes are immersed in a liquid electrolyte that contains highly mobile electron donors and acceptors, resulting in an accumulation of charge on each of the electrodes. This results in an electric field between the two electrodes that acts as a capacitor.
