EDLCs and Supercapacitors use the same principle, but the latter uses additional capacitors to perform their function. Both technologies are based on the principle of Electric Double Layer Capacitance (EDLC): two metal electrodes are immersed in a liquid electrolyte that contains highly mobile electron donors and acceptors, resulting in an accumulation of charge on each of the electrodes.
