Power relays, over 2 amps, allow a low power electric signal to control a much higher power circuit. This is achieved by the use of a contact that opens or closes a high power circuit. The JM1AN-TMP-DC48V-F is an example of a power relay capable of switching high power AC or DC circuits.
This power relay has a one pole, single-throw (SPST) contact form. It is designed to switch up to 48V DC under normal operation and has an electrical life of 50,000 operations minimum. It has a mechanically-forced conception comprising a coil and an armature, and therefore it is insensitive to external vibrations. The power relay has two independent switching paths with a maximum contact current of 10A; one for main primary and one for auxiliary primary.
The JM1AN-TMP-DC48V-F has an excellent contact configuration and has three types of contact material, i.e. AgNi (silver nickel), AgSnO2 (silver oxide) and AgCdO (silver cadmium oxide). All three have excellent wear resistance, high electrical and thermal conductivity, and superior dielectric strength. The power relay has an excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance with both low electromagnetic interference (EMI) and low electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS).
The working principle of the JM1AN-TMP-DC48V-F power relay is mainly based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When an alternating current is passed through the coil, it generates an EMF (electro-magnetic force). This EMF acts on the armature which is held in position by a spring. When the EMF increases sufficiently beyond the spring’s retaining force, the armature is attracted to the coil and the contact points close, thus connecting the high power circuit. When the current decreases, the spring force overcomes the EMF and the armature is released, and the contact points open, breaking the connection.
