Thyristors - DIACs, SIDACs in K0900G Application Field and Working Principle Overview

K0900G Application Field and Working Principle

K0900G is a thyristor based power limit switch designed for single-phase power supply systems of up to 500V and is used for the purpose of preventing overloading on the system. The K0900G is able to detect over-current and disconnect the power supply line with a fast response time of less than 20 milliseconds. The K0900G utilizes a combination of either a DIAC or SIDAC and a TRIAC to control the power supply.

The DIAC or SIDAC acts as a voltage sensor, detecting the current on the line and triggering a change in the TRIAC’s behavior. The TRIAC, in turn, acts as a switch, either allowing or stopping current from flowing through the power line depending on the DIAC or SIDAC\'s signal. When the line voltage exceeds the rated current, the DIAC or SIDAC trips and the TRIAC shuts off the current. The action of the K0900G is fast enough that the power supply is prevented from overloading.
