KA3524: Application fields and working principles

KA3524 is a DC-to-DC switching controller integrated circuit (IC) based on a PI single-ended series architecture. It is a discrete voltage regulator that is commonly used in DC-to-DC switching applications, such as battery chargers, DC/DC step-up (BOOST) and buck converters.

Working principles

If the output current is not within the range of the set reference voltage, the KA3524 adjusts the control pulses to the main switch of the dc-dc converter. In voltage-mode control, the KA3524 senses the output voltage using a voltage feedback circuit and compares it to an external reference voltage. The KA3524 then adjusts the control pulses to the main switch of the DC-DC converter in order to maintain the output voltage. The KA3524 also features several features that enhance the performance of the dc-dc converter. For example, the KA3524 has an integrated over-current protection functionality, which automatically shuts down the dc-dc converter when the current limit is reached. Additionally, the KA3524 features a soft-start feature that limits inrush current and helps prevent output noise.
