Linear–comparators are electronic devices used to compare two different input signals such as voltage, current, light, or pressure. One of the more common and widely used types of linear–comparator is the KA393, a precision four-quadrant, complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) operational amplifier available in both single and dual packages.The KA393\'s main virtue is its extreme performance, with an input offset voltage of only 10 mV and an offset voltage temperature coefficient of 0.1 μV/°C. In addition, it has an extremely low input bias current of 1 nA and a wide supply voltage ranging from 4.5 V to 10 V. It also has excellent common-mode rejection with a ratio of 100 dB at 1 kHz and a slew rate of 0.3V/μs.The KA393 is typically used in applications such as precision A/D converters, photodiode amplifier, multiplexer/demultiplexer, and programmable analog–to–digital converters. Moreover, its low noise level, fast slew rate, low input offset voltage and temperature coefficient, as well as its high common–mode rejection ratio, make it an ideal choice for many application needs.The basic working principle of the KA393 is that two independent comparators in the device compare two different input signals, usually two analog input signals. If the first signal is higher than the second signal, then the output of the KA393 is one of two states: either a (high) logic high or a (low) logic low. If the input signals are equal, the output is a (stable) middle state. The KA393 is ideal for applications that require precise measurement or comparison of two input signals due to its precise response to a changing environment. It is also widely used in embedded systems that require precise analog–to–digital conversion.The KA393 is also well suited to high speed, high frequency operations due to its low power consumption, low output impedance and low power supply noise.)
