Diodes - Bridge Rectifiers
A bridge rectifier, comprised of 4 diodes, is a type of rectifying circuit used to convert alternating current (AC) input into direct current (DC). The diodes permit current waveforms of one direction only, allowing the current to flow in either direction through the output while maintaining safe polarity. The diodes then convert the AC waveform into a smoother form of DC waveform by limiting the speed of the current waveform given to the output. Bridge rectifiers are commonly used in a variety of applications across a wide range of industries and technological systems. Certain types of power supplies, such as those found in automobiles, use the technology for both battery charging and the transfer of electrical energy. Other industries and systems, like telecommunication and HVAC, also make use of the bridge rectifier, although for different purposes. In these systems and industries, the bridge rectifier is ideal, as it can be adapted to each application and is typically very affordable. KBP2005GTB bridge rectifiers are one type of bridge rectifier intended for power applications. The device is designed with four avalanche rugged insulated-gate bipolar transistors (igbts) and four high forward-breakdown voltage diodes with an integrated heat sink. These transistors and diodes are designed to provide with a wide range of voltage and current capabilities, producing up to 2.5kV and 25A, respectively. The bridge rectifier features soft-recovery characteristics to reduce the form of stress pulses given to the circuit, as well as reduce distortion of the output waveform. The unit also includes temperature and current limit protections to defend against thermal overload. Additionally, the device is equipped with a self-mite frequency-setting scheme for a regulated frequency, reducing the need for manual frequency setting.
