• Application field and working principle of KPTM08B20-16S

KPTM08B20-16S is a kind of 3 phase alternator, which has a wide range of application；such as, power plants, large industry, wind turbine and so on. It is manufactured by South Korean firm of Doosan and is relatively light, at 98 kg. Thus, it is small enough to be taken on power sources for different applications. This type of alternator is equipped with a hermetically sealed rotating assembly that allows it to work in dusty and humid environments.When it comes to working principle, KPTM08B20-16S produces three phases of alternating current (AC). This alternator uses a rotating magnetic field inside a stator (stationary part) and produces AC inside the rotating armature (rotor part). The rotor is attached to the shaft of the alternator which is powered by pulley or belt by prime mover like diesel engine or gas turbine to rotate. As the alternator rotates, the magnetic field will cut the stator winding producing AC in the output winding. This three-phase AC produced by alternator is collected by the output terminals.KPTM08B20-16S is capable to generate a voltage of between 400 to 500 V and of frequency 50 Hz. By using slip rings, the voltage produced by an alternator can be increased or decreased as per the requirements. With an efficiency of 98%, this alternator is energy efficient and reliable when compared with traditional alternators. It has sufficient output at the lower speed, and is equipped with a breather, oil dipstick, lube oil drain and suction, exhaust piping, oil filter, air cleaner, fuel filter and an air preheater. KPTM08B20-16S is also featured by a high-output terminal (HOT) measurement system, which can measure the continuous output voltage and frequency of the alternator. This measurement system consists of Hot Test Voltage (HTV), Hot Test Frequency (HTF), Voltage Test (VT), and Frequency Test (FT). These measurements are taken while the alternator is running in full-load condition. The HTV and HTF measure the hot output of the alternator, while the VT and FT measure the cold output of the alternator.In addition, KPTM08B20-16S also has electrical protection systems which protect the alternator from the damaging effects of over-voltage, over-load and under-voltage. These systems can detect any abnormalities in the electrical system and disconnect the power supply, protect the alternator from overload. Moreover, the alternator is also monitored continuously for current and voltage protection. The vibration monitoring system also ensures proper operation of the alternator and its auxiliary components like bearing, fan, etc.KPTM08B20-16S is designed to operate in conditions with a temperature up to 40°C and can adapt to different subsoil conditions due to its flexibility. It also requires minimum maintenance with no need to replace components like brush holders, spool-wires, etc. The overall design of this 3 phase alternator is durable and reliable and has been used in many areas of industry.
