The L4931CV15 is a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator that is typically used in applications that require a precise, clean and stable voltage output. This voltage regulator can deliver up to 1.5A of continuous output current, making it ideal for powering high current consumption devices.
The L4931CV15 is a three pin device with an input voltage range of 2V to 15V and an output voltage adjustable from 1.2V to 11V and typically a max output current of 1.5A. The dropout voltage for this device is relatively low for an LDO device at about 0.2V. This LDO device also has two built-in protection features: short circuit protection and thermal overload protection.
The input voltage is applied to the device over the Vin pin while the output voltage is regulated by the Vout pin. The Ground pin is connected to the negative terminal of the power source. The L4931CV15 employs an internal series pass transistor and a current-limiting circuit to adjust and hold the voltage at a desired level. The voltage regulator is stable under conditions of capacitive loads and can be adjusted for both current-limiting and foldback protection.
The internal reverse-bias slew rate limiting circuit increases the overall stability of the voltage regulator by slowing the rise and fall of the output voltage due to inductive, capacitive or resistive loads. This also reduces acoustic and RF noise on the output voltage. The internal current-limiting circuit prevents excessive power dissipated in the pass transistor and protects the device from thermal runaway. The output voltage is also stable under conditions of extreme load and line regulation.
