Thyristors are a type of four-layer semiconductor that can be used as switches, rectifiers, regulators, sensors, level detectors, etc. They are mostly used in switching applications. Among all thyristors, TRIACs, short for Triode for Alternating Current, are unique and have special applications.
A TRIAC is a three-terminal bistable device that combines two switching functions in a single package. This makes it ideal for many applications where two power semiconductors are required, such as phase-controlled AC circuits. With its two switching functions, it can switch both directions of the current and is particularly suited for controlling AC power for applications such as dimmers, motor speed controls, and solenoid valves.
The L4N5RP (Low Inductance, High Speed, Reliable Performance) is a new type of TRIAC that has been developed and is suitable for use in high-power applications.
