The L6756D is a high-voltage DC/DC synchronous step-down regulator created by STMicroelectronics (ST). It is the first high-voltage step-down regulator to operate from an input voltage of up to 70V and provides an output voltage of up to 120V. The device can operate with a current efficiency of up to 95% while offering excellent load and line regulation, as well as EMI compliance. Moreover, the L6756D is capable of providing up to 10A of current.The L6756D is ideal for automotive applications, such as powertrain systems, safety and security solutions, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Its synchronized architecture minimizes input and output ripple, as well as electromagnetic interference (EMI) and stands up to temperatures as high as 105°C. Other features include a 12-bit external current and voltage monitoring (EVM) interface, an enable input and an integrated high- and low-side gate driver.The device’s working principle is based on a voltage or current mode synchronous buck topology. It consists of an high-voltage (HV) MOSFET switched, a low-voltage (LV) driver, a high-side low-side (H/L) driver, and a regulator.When the HV-MOSFET is activated, current flows from the input voltage to the ground through the inductor, and the output voltage is proportional to the input voltage. The regulator is used to regulate the output voltage by providing the necessary gate drive signals to the HV-MOSFET and keeps the output voltage stable. The LV driver is used to control the on/off of the LV-MOSFET and regulates the LV-side current. Finally, the H/L driver provides the necessary gate drive signals for both the HV and LV-MOSFETs.Overall, the L6756D is designed to provide exceptional EMI characteristics, superior electrical performance, and improved thermal management.
