The L6986FTR is a P-channel Power MOSFET with integrated driver and synchronous rectified buck converter. Application Field
The L6986FTR is designed to provide a current up to a maximum of 4A and adjusts the output voltage from 0.8V to 2.5V. It can replace cumbersome linear regulators for post-regulations of buck or SEPIC converters, thus enabling the elimination of electrolytic capacitors. Working Principle
Under normal operating conditions, the voltage across transistor\'s drain and source pins is adjusted with the combination of a primary-side MOSFET and SO-802 driver (UDRV). This allows the device to achieve high efficiency and fast transient response with low energy losses.The gate voltage of the primary MOSFET is internally clamped in order to protect the device from exceeding its breakdown voltage. When compared to conventional bipolar transistor switch regulators, the L6986FTR performs the same function with two timesaving features. First, the integrated SO-802 driver (UDRV) takes care of the protection against short circuits and allows for protection against over current. Second, an internal current sense comparator monitors the output voltage across the voltage feedback resistor and results to limited peak current, thanks to the current artificial limitation during switch ON.In addition, the driver features a built-in programmable soft start, which helps to limit inrush current on system start-up and prevents over-loading of the downstream components.
