TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) diodes are designed to protect electronic circuits from destructive voltage spikes or transients. The most commonly used TVS diode, the LC64A, is an integrated, low-capacitance, unidirectional thyristor designed for use in signaling applications. It features excellent negative transients and surge absorption properties and is suitable for high speed signal and data line protection.

The LC64A consists of a gallium arsenide (GaAs) diode that provides solid-state protection against high-power surges. The device is constructed from two SiGe transistors with an integrated gate that is switched between on and off states.
