The LC709006A-TLM-E is a parallel input/output (I/O) expander that enables communication between a host processor or controller and peripheral devices. It provides a convenient way to add ports to a system, and simplifies the task of connecting peripheral peripherals to a microcontroller or processor. It is especially useful when used in combination with systems that lack a sufficient number of built-in I/O pins.
The LC709006A-TLM-E is a I/O expander utilizing Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The SPI bus supports up to four connected devices on one data line. The SPI bus protocol is used to synchronize the transmission of data from one device to the other. Thus, communication between the host processor and the peripheral devices connected to the LC709006A-TLM-E can be done without any complex wiring, as SPI only requires four pins.
The LC709006A-TLM-E utilizes I/O expanders with a 16-bit data and address bus consisting of eight input and eight output pins. It can retain up to eight bytes of data which can be accessed through the 16-bit data/address bus. The data and address buses are multiplexed on the 16-bit data/address bus, meaning that each byte of data occupies one 8-bit bus slot. This makes it possible to send two bytes of data (four 8-bit words) simultaneously at one time.
In addition to the 16-bit data/address bus, the LC709006A-TLM-E also includes an on-board watchdog timer, an interrupt control line and an external clock line. The watchdog timer will reset the microcontroller when the timer expires resulting in the interruption of the current operation and a return to the main processing loop. The interrupt control line allows for the processor to be interrupted when external events occur including the detection of a data transfer from the LC709006A-TLM-E to the host microcontroller. The external clock line enables the processor to synchronize its operations and communication with the LC709006A-TLM-E.
The LC709006A-TLM-E has many application fields, such as in embedded systems, instrumentation, robotics, intelligent controllers, industrial automation, automotive, digital audio and video, etc. It can also be used for wired communications, communication over a CANbus/LINbus/I²C, as slave device for CAN modules and LIN modules, or as a USB slave device. The chip can also be used for power management in circuit designs to provide real-time control and monitor of voltage and current, as well as to control power supplies, battery charging systems and converter power systems.
